Why People Do Not Eat Enough Fruits and Vegetables and What They Can Do about It
April 12, 2024What is a balanced diet?
May 5, 2024Research has highlighted the impact of sugar-sweetened beverages (SSBs) on public health, particularly concerning the rise in obesity and related non-communicable diseases (NCDs). The negative effects of SSBs are particularly significant in children. High consumption of sugary drinks can increase the risk of overweight and obesity in children, which can lead to dental caries and potentially contribute to development of NCDs in later life. A recent study found that if little children drank sugary drinks like soft drinks and soda, they might have a higher chance of becoming overweight when they grow up. The research followed 14,000 kids and noticed that those who drank fizzy drinks before they were two years old were more likely to be heavier by the time they were in their mid twenties. The researchers concluded that what children eat and drink early in life can affect their health and weight for a long time. They also noted that obesity is a big health problem and to prevent it, we need to pay more attention to children’s diets from a young age. Limiting the intake of sugar-sweetened beverages from a young age is recommended to maintain a healthy weight and promote healthier dietary patterns. Encouraging the consumption of water, unsweetened teas, and other beverages without added sugars can be a beneficial step towards reducing the risk of obesity and its associated health problems.
